Mauritius aims to position itself as a Medical and Pharmaceutical hub

The Republic of Mauritius is gearing towards positioning itself as a Medical and Pharmaceutical hub. The development of the pharmaceutical industry in Mauritius is a key component of the government’s economic diversification strategy.

In this respect, the Government of Mauritius has put in place incentives applicable to companies engaged in pharmaceutical, medical devices, cosmeceutical/dermatological products and Research & Development/Research Laboratories as follows: –

8-year corporate tax holiday – after period: 3% corporate tax in profits derived from exports of goods

Medical Devices, Instruments and products

No registration duty or land transfer

Cosmeceutical products

No import duties on equipment & raw materials

Dermatological products

No export duties in Mauritius

R & D 
Laboratories

– VAT exemption on construction of medical R&D centers
– VAT exemption on plants and equipment
– Accelerated depreciation of 50% in respect of capital expenditure incurred on R&D, that is the investment cost is fully amortised in 2 years
