Mauritius and the Indian state of Maharashtra have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost investment and trade. The agreement aims to develop new business opportunities between the two territories, encouraging investment in both directions. The MoU was signed by the Economic Development Board Mauritius (EDB) and the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) during a Mauritius-Maharashtra Business Forum held during the official visit of the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, to Mauritius.
Maharashtra has a gross domestic product of $420 billion and contributed to one-sixth of the GDP of the Indian subcontinent in 2021 and 2022. The MoU was signed in the presence of ministers from both sides and is expected to strengthen economic ties between Mauritius and India, offering significant benefits to investors from Maharashtra. The signing of the MoU marks a new era of partnership between the two territories, encouraging investment and trade promotion while strengthening economic relations.
